Hmong and Yao people, among others, wear these types of neck rings or torques, one or more at a time. This particular ring is probably made of a nickel bronze alloy, and has a silver/gold patina. Unlike most of these neck rings, this one has been faceted, making an attractive, reflective pattern when worn, and has "ears" on the ends that have been embossed with a pattern resembling birds' heads. This piece has been previously worn by a Laos woman.
